Cartilage preparation with Chondrectom™
The Cartilage preparation is an essential treatment step for regenerating defective cartilage tissue. Accurate and complete debridement of damaged cartilage directly influences the quality of the regenerated tissue and is therefore a prerequisite for forming hyaline-like cartilage. For this reason, cartilage surgeons rely on high-quality instruments specifically designed for precise cartilage preparation.
The Chondrectom™ instrument set was developed by cartilage specialists and tailored to the requirements of precise and efficient cartilage preparation. Its user-friendly handling is valued by orthopedic and trauma surgeons worldwide.
After debridement, any type of cartilage-regenerative procedure can be performed, such as matrix-augmented bone marrow stimulation with NanoFx® and Hyalofast®

Why is precise cartilage preparation important for cartilage regeneration?
The goal of débridement is to create the optimal conditions for high-quality cartilage formation. To achieve this, all damaged cartilage areas must be completely removed, and vertical cartilage walls must be generated. In addition, the calcified layer must be fully removed without damaging the subchondral bone.1 The cartilage margins must be prepared so that they are aligned at a right angle to the subchondral bone (see illustration).2
High-quality, hyaline-like cartilage can only form in defects that are thoroughly and accurately prepared. Studies have shown that precise cartilage preparation can positively influence the clinical outcomes of cell-based regeneration techniques, such as matrix-augmented bone marrow stimulation and isolated bone marrow stimulation.3
